November Camp – Field to Plate Duck Hunting

Do Not Worry

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

An Amazing Group of Young Men

It’s amazing how often I walk away from camp feeling full and tired. We have some of the most amazing young men come to camp. These young men come to camp to learn new things, have community, develop into men, learn to know and love Christ, and have a great time in the process.

Before Camp

Before the campers were handed a shotgun they had to take and pass the hunter’s safety course and prove their understanding of gun handling and hunter’s safety. We were greatly blessed by Triple Cross Cowboy Church to use their facility to bring in the game warden to teach the hunter’s safety course to all the campers that wanted to hunt.

Prep

Our campers learned how to put out decoys. They learned the process, reason, and purpose for the placement of the decoys.

Field Dress

Once the hunt was over all the campers learned how to field dress and cook what they had taken. Proper sportsmanship, conservation, and respect for creation is also an import piece of hunting.

An Added Bonus

Our camps are typically day camps, however, this camp had a new element added to it – overnight camping. We were blessed with enough tents that all the campers got their own tents to use so they had their own personal space. After camp was set up we got to roast hotdogs over the fire, tell stories, roast marshmallows, laugh, and even had one of our mentors tell his testimony of how he lost his father and what that looked like walking through that season. Campfires have always allowed walls to come down and great conversations to start, and that certainly happened Friday night.

Duck Calls

After camp was picked up and we traveled back to Granbury we were blessed by Micah Smith with Valor Game Calls. He taught us how to make a duck call from start to finish and even taught us all the basics of doing the different calls to call in the ducks (sorry to the moms – it’s almost as bad as a beginner trumpet player).
