Cooking in a Natural Disaster
This month we were blessed by TBM (Texas Baptist Men) and their disaster relief headquarters. Our campers had the unique opportunity to learned how to cook in a mock disaster relief environment.
Serving The Least Of These
Matthew 25v35-40 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
This month our young men learned what it's like to prepare meals for people who are in need. The scripture above speaks to the value that God places on serving those who are in need. Our young men learned skills that can be used to do something that is near and dear to God's heart. It was an amazing opportunity to prepare these young men to be servants of the Lord.
What TBM is all about
Our campers got a tour of the Command Centers where they learned how they can provide 100K meals daily, freshwater services, Hurricane/tornado clean-up crews, and SOOO much more from their ministry. Their TBM Disaster Relief program started in 1967 and is the third largest disaster relief organization.
We started in the classroom with food handling lessons and five quick recipes to create variety out of a plain ole chicken finger. Oh, and a little taste testing.
Tight Cooking Quarters
Our campers learned how to cook in TBM's quick response cook trailer. Tighter quarters than what most kitchens are like but they had everything that was needed! They were able to prep, bake, and do dishes.
What are chicken fingers without a secret sauce? Once the sauce was made, the chicken and fries were baked, and the bread was warmed. The young men got to eat what they had prepared.
